So excited to know whats up. This is my first time kayaking, sound fun :p
I meet up Steven on the train to go Tampines together to meet up with the rest (Kelvin, Chris & Anderson) at Tampines Interchange. At Tampines we took a bus together to Changi Interchange. We will be meeting up the 2 girls (Andrea & Siew Ling) at Changi Interchange. When all of us had reached, we proceed to find our way to the (CSSC) Changi Sea Sports Club. It was raining small drops, -_-".
We manage to find our way to CSSC, just few minutes we reached there. Blish .... It started to rain heavily. What a "good" weather to learn kayaking. Haiz, after around 45mins of waiting. Finally all of the participants had arrive, then the guys from CSSC started to brief us some basic knowledge for kayaking.
They started explaining the parts of kayak -_-" yaawwwnnnnzzzzz...... After around 30 - 40 mins of talking. Fainlly we are told to pick our the "life jacket". As we know life jacket will make save you when you over turn. But what we heard from them, there are two type.
Type 1 - When you over turn, you fall in the water. The life jacket will automatic turn you over and make you face up.
Type 2 - When you over turn, you fall in the water. The jacket will only help to make you float on water. But you must turn yourself to keep your head up for breathing. (Forgotten what is it known as)
There are a range of size to choose - XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL. Next is picking a paddle each, there are two type. Right handle and Left handle. After we each have taken our paddle, we are being taught how to do front paddleing and back paddleing. After the practice, the instructors told us to take our lunch. Then after our lunch we will go to the open water. All of us head our way to Changi Village to eat. Half way through our lunch, ah blish again. The rain got back as big as before. So we are being hold up at the hawkers there for another 1 hour plus. The rain seem very big, and dont seem like stopping. The HRD guys, decided to go back and check with the CSSC. See they can postpone the other half day to another Friday.
After they reached there, then the rain become smaller. Then they called us back to start our kayaking. We are kayaking in a double kayak, so we got to choose our partners.
Kelvin with Andrea
Anderson with Siew Ling
Chris with me
Poor Steven no partner so he partner with Sing Ai from POD (Hope Sing Ai Becarefull of the Se Lang)
We do some checking to our vest, see will it float anot. Then we were thought how to board on to the kayak and how to disaboard. After that we begin to have some paddleing - front, back, left, right. After all this little bit of trying, we start to do some long distance. I remember we were cutting across a route where there is continous boat passing through. We must keep on going or else we will be "crashed". After a long distance fun, we stop at a beach. Then the instructor suggested, we have some games.
Game 1 - we separate our self into 2 groups of 8. Then we will have a kayak race. From away the beach there is a barrier floating.
1) We start on the beach run to the kayak,
2) Board the kayak,
3) Head for the barrier,
4) Then around the barrier,
5) Then all the way back,
6) And then disaboard,
7) Then the next 2 will board it and repeat Step 2 - 7.
We lost the first game mean 0 - 1, there will only be 3 games to be played.
After finishing the game, with enough rest. We paddle back to the beach where we started. During our way back, 1 of the kayak overturn (On board are Mr Francis Goh & Mr Daniel Bg from T&I). Then the rest of us, the 7 kayak group ourselve together. And the 2 instructor try to help the two of them back on to the kayak. After they finally got on board, then we continue back to the beach. Then we get ready for our second game.
Game 2 - We move all our kayak on to the beach. Leaving just one behind.
The 2 instructor then demo our next game. The 2 of them will be holding on to the overturn kayak.
1) Start by running from the beach to the kayak,
2) When we have the kayak in front, we had to jump over it,
3) Then swim under it,
4) Then stand up run to pass to the next guy / girl,
5) The next person will carry repeat step 1 - 5.
Again we lost the match 0 - 2, so we had to do our forfeit.
The instructor ask us to play the 3rd game. But hearing what they explained, we better be good and do our forfeit. As the last game is more tough then the 1st & 2nd.
Game 3 - Sit on kayak. Overturn, get out from below. (Our group have 3 girls, and the other group have 0 girls -_-" already so disadvantage) So we get ourselves ready for the forfeit, it is to roll on the beach, from left to right. Then right to left, horrible part is we will be covered with sands.
The whole group of us force the 2 instructors to do with us, or else the whole group of us wont do. Then in the end the 2 of them do it together with us. Lolz, after the forfeit we are have some time to stay awhile in the water. And for those of them who want to try out the single person kayak, they can do so during this time.
Awhile later we get all the kayaks back, then we were taught how to wash it. Then we carry them back to where we taken them down. After that then we start our bathing, then home sweet home.
Tiring day (^_^") but quite fun if no rain then it will be more fun (-_-")
