First Day At MHA For Sering My NS
Curious Day
Early in the morning 6plus I woke up. The instructor mention to all of us, to report early (8 sharp must reach) for our first day to set a good impression. They also told us to wear our smart 4 (Uniform 4) SMARTLY. I also double check with him, because I am the one and only one being posted to MHA. What time should I report and what should I wear, because I heard during the interview they mention MHA don’t need wear Uniform 3 (For clerks) or Uniform 4 and they start work at 8.30am. But the instructor told me to wear smart 4 down, and reports at 7.45am sharp don’t be late.
So what else can I do, better to be early then late. So I get down there wearing my smart 4, and report to the guard house at 7.45am. Then security ask me why report so early, because clearance stated I will be reporting to M7 (M is the tower, there is 2 tower M and P and 7 is the floor) at 8.30am. So the security told me since you are so early, so proceed to the canteen first for my breakfast and wait for the time to pass.
So I went to the lobby, I heard from the security said the canteen is at the 3rd floor. But I only saw a few numberpad to press, and i found no button to press like all other normal lift. Then I ask someone how do I get to the canteen, he told me just press the floor you want to go to then see which lift. Wao lift also so special, I reached the canteen and get myself a can of Bandung and settle down. I didn’t try the food there, because not sure is it very expensive. I sit down watch TV and wait for the time to pass to 8.30am.
Finally 8.30am, I proceed to the lift. This time I know how to press the lift :p But when I reach 7th floor, I discover that I have 1 more problem. How do I get into the office so I stand outside the glass door. To my luck Mdm Poon (In charge of NSF posted to MHA) appear and open the glass door for me. She brought me in, and start letting me read articles and papers (Rules) about what other NSF did and get themselves kicked out of MHA. After that, AGAIN forms to be filled up. This time is about my attendance and my personal particulars to be file up for MHA officers to view. After that I meet up with 3 NSF from registry they are quite friendly. Then Mdm Poon asks us to do self intro. But their names didn’t get stall into my brain so fast (P2 Brain, Ram lesser then 128MB).
Then Mdm Poon call that guy (the guy who come and interview me) down to fetch me up. Keke at this time I still not sure what his name was I only remember that cute lady [Janice:)] who came and interview me. After he came I finally try to install his name into my brain. He is Desmond Wai Kah How (Han Yu Pin Yin also Jiahao) my senior. He brought me up to M17, the department which he is working at. Is know as SPD (Strategic Planning & Development Division).
He taps his pass at a pad, and the glass door opened. I walk in behind him then he turns left. Then he starts introducing SPD staffs to me. It goes one round Christina, Miss Loo, Elaine, Shihua, Ester, Janice [She again : )], Zhi Yang, Kok Eng, Anderson, Stephanie, Ivan, Viola, Michelle, Yonjie (NSF of OD), Joseph (In charge of NSF Discipline), Joanne, Bobby and Meng Kiat (NSF of Research), Sook Bee, Lisa, Siew Ling. He also did tell me their Ranks (Example DD, AD and so on), wao so much people in a department. I am wondering, am I supposed to remember everyone. P2 brain with lesser then 128Ram, can’t absorb so fast : ).
Then he proceeds to his desk and check his email, after that he brought me down to the canteen. Haiz canteen again, at canteen he meet up with a group of NSF around 5 – 7 of them. Then he start introducing me to them, telling them I am his new junior (Jiahao) don’t bullie me. Then he starts introducing them to me. And telling if i need help who can i find? For example Mingyao – Borrow Digital Cam Projector, Dennis - Name Plate Holder, Ervin – prepare Chinese tea for meeting involve Senior Management Personnel and so on.
After they have finished their breakfast, we went back to office. Awhile later he went smoking with some fellow NSFs. After their puffs, we finally settle down in the office not going canteen or puffing ground. Then he slowly brief me on what is my daily job, and what will I be doing occasionally. He say so many things, P2 can’t absorb so I told him. You better type it out in word and save it for me :p So he type and explain briefly what am I going to do. After he sought out all the job points, he told me to take the sit in front of the com. Then he proceeds with his Football Manager on a Laptop.
I thought he brought the laptop here himself, later I discover this laptop belong to SPD, it should be use for doing presentation. But this laptop is considered the slowest among the other 2 in the cabinet. So they would very seldom consider using this laptop. Only when the other 2 is in use, then in need of a laptop. Then this laptop will be taken. Time passes very fast it is reaching 6pm already, we start to pack up and getting ready to go home already. Home Sweet Home.
